about
Dandelion & Burdock is a song about my personal growth and how I have learned more about myself and where I stand than I ever thought I could. I have had most of my family and friends stand beside me and support me in my identity, although I have lost people along the way. This song describes my relationship with my dad and how growing older took away the rose-tinted glasses I saw him through. Musically, the song acts as the bridge between the style I preferred when I was younger and the style that fits best now.
A quote that embodies my feeling for this song is ‘Growing up and seeing your parents’ flaws is like losing your religion, I don’t believe in God anymore. I don’t believe in my father either.’ Nicola Yoon, The Sun is Also a Star.
lyrics
He hasn’t text in twelve days,
He said the phone works both ways, he said,
He said, he said the phone works both ways
Mum said no drinking tonight
Kept his word but flicked up a light
He kept his word, he kept his word
Then Dad, he said to me, ‘you ditzy little girl,
If you could stay this way then you may have the world.
Don’t you dare toss that coin into that water fountain,
Don’t you dare go picking pretty wishing dandelions’
I’m kicking, I’m kicking, I’m kicking dandelions
And wishing, and wishing, wishing what I said mattered
Would you tell the truth or would you lie to me?
Don’t even need to hear it, it’s in the air we breathe
It’s in the air we breathe, it’s in the air we breathe,
Don’t even need to hear it, it’s in the air we breathe
He said ‘now look what you’ve done’
Shake his hand but his hands are bathed in blood
‘What happened to my little girl?
You’re everything that’s wrong with the world’
He said ‘now look what you’ve done’
Shake his hand now my hands are bathed in blood
‘What happened to my little girl?
You’re everything that’s wrong with the world’
I’m kicking, I’m kicking, I’m kicking dandelions
And wishing, and wishing, wishing what I said mattered
Would you tell the truth or would you lie to me?
Don’t even need to hear it, it’s in the air we breathe
It’s in the air we breathe, it’s in the air we breathe,
Don’t even need to hear it, it’s in the air we breathe

I first saw Beth live at a Hull University open day and have been in love with her style since. Saw her again at The Sesh with a few friends and a friend fell just as in love as I am. TROUSER DRESS
I opened for this band at their first ever gig and their energy was just amazing. They're all so cool too and their music is even cooler. TROUSER DRESS
